COMPETITION RECORD

The Club began competing to test their ability and in 1997 took gold and silver in the Northern Ireland Aikido Championships refereed by Sean Hoddy.

They took the British Northern, Southern and National Ju Jutsu titles before entering into the international Ju Jutsu championship in 2000. Hamill won the Open, McTrustry the Light Heavy Weight and their club members won many of the other categories.

The same year they entered the World Championships along with fellow martial artists from Islandmagee, A McKee 3rd Dan Ju Jutsu and J Marshall 2nd Dan Judo from Newtownabbey.

Hamill and McTrustry came home ranked third in the world in heavyweight and middleweight respectively.  This brought an invitation to train with the British squad for the next championships.

The local Mayor and Councillors invited the club to be honoured for representing Newtownabbey.

The next year the men represented Northern Ireland in the World Team Championships fighting with USA, Japan, Brazil, Africa, etc.

The club have competed in their main discipline in the annual British Taiho Jutsu Championships.  They have won the title in 7 of the last 9 years, with D McCluskey from Leicester and P Bird from Birmingham taking the title on the other two occasions.  Gareth McIntyre from Northern Ireland had the longest run winning the Tim Burton Memorial Trophy - years in a row.
